In 2008, members will present six floral design mini lessons beginning in February and continuing in March, April, May, August, and September during the regular meetings.  Each lesson will last only ten minutes long and begin at 1 p.m. During that time, a complete floral design will be customized.

What Every Designer Needs to Know

Before Entering a Standard Flower Show

 

You will learn how to choose a section and a class from the Flower Show Schedule. Imagine yourself creating a design through the schedule and design process. Learn the Schedule’s verbiage and the principles of design.

Design Judges: Nancy Johnson, Cathy Hamilton and Ann Nichols will lecture and demonstrate various designs.

Dean Conners, owner of Borealis Design, has constructed a rain garden during the summer of 2007 with documented photos taken especially for our members. Dean holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Michigan State University.

Annual Community-Wide Plant Exchange

 

Community members are invited to bring a plant to exchange for one of equal size and value. The exchange will be held at the Elk Rapids Rotary Park/Elk Rapids Chamber of Commerce. Plants must be healthy and insect free. Master gardeners will be on hand to inspect them.

Joe Yuchasz, former mayor of Elk Rapids for 19 years, will display early photos; as well as, drawings and maps of the Harbor. At this luncheon, we recognize and honor Club and Community members for their garden club activities. Table centerpieces will be designed by Club member committees.

Bi-Annual Garden Walk

 Experience 'Up-North' Garden Varieties

 

This is the Club’s Bi-Annual Garden Walk, which will include many beautiful and interesting gardens in the area. This is an all member participation event and each member is encouraged to purchase two tickets and serve as a hostess for a three-hour period at one of the gardens. Please contact Jan or one of the other committee members to inform them what you can do to help make this event a success.
