The Elk Rapids Garden Club News

Dear Members,

The September/October/November newsletter is now

available on line from our web site www.michigangardenclubs.org

I am requesting that you go to the site and either print it off or

read it online.

The cost of printing and mailing has sky rocked so I am confident

you will be able to receive the newsletter by this method.

Those without a computer, please let me know as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Dolores J. Stouwie

MGC President 2007-2009

  • Week of August 10th:  There was a memorial dedication in South Arrowhead Garden.

  • September 3:   Paint our shed, 9 am   (September 5     Rain date, 9 am)       Several volunteers are need to paint the club’s shed. Have fun painting it with several club members. All supplies will be supplied. No Rembrandt’s required!  Kay Goodall will be calling for volunteers.

  •    The Northern Michigan Flower Show Judges Guild extends an invitation to garden club members to attend their guild meetings.  A judge from their own garden club will mentor the ladies in creative design work.  Our meetings take place in Traverse City during the months of May, June, August and September.  This is a fabulous opportunity to bring your work to our meetings, learn from the judges when their work is critique, and each month having the excitement of putting together a different design challenge (with the help of your mentor).  The judges are most kind and very helpful to each other--a definite sisterhood.   One requirement is to purchase the Flower Show Handbook. Call Judy Larson at 264-9880

  • We collected 45 e-mail addresses for the State of Michigan’s website at the May meeting.  Val Dinvald, the web master for the State’s web site, is registering all of those in the next few weeks.  If you were unable to  get your name on the list at the May meeting, please go to the http://www.michigangardenclubs.org  web site.  You will be able to register yourself. You will then have access to the States many resources reserved for registered members.   By registering you will also receive the Michigan Garden Club’s Inc newsletter online in the future.  We will save our Michigan Garden Club, Inc $26,000.00 of our dues.  We will save untold paper and ink from entering the waste stream.  This is one small step of conservation by many special garden club people.  Thank you.

  • The Pot Luck date needs to be changed in the Annual Directory.  The correct date is October 28, 2008.  Please mark your yearbook and your calendars.
