The Elk Rapids Garden Club continues this fourth year to recognize individual efforts by business and home owners to beautify our Village .

The spring 2010 recipients of business and private residence Village Pride Garden awards are:

Twisted Fish

Twisted Fish Gallery and Florist Shop, 10443 S. Bayshore Drive, Elk Rapids, owned by Charlie and Bob Streit.

Charlie Streit added 3 more perennial gardens to the original ones at this eye catching corner on US 31.  The scrap iron moose sculpture has become more of a landmark than the Twisted Fish.  Relatives help maintain the beautiful gardens that are a wonderful mix of art and flowers.  One spring Charlie planted surprise daffodils scattered in the lawns.  Iris, towering lilacs, hyacinth, anemone invite visitors to stroll through gardens and around the several studios.

The Winter's Garden

Village resident Joyce and Mike Winters at 603 S. Bayshore

Joyce and Mike Winters at the corner of S. Bayshore and Second Street “adopted” the adjacent property in the 1970’s when a new road went through a park.  The small perennial garden grew through the years and is a labor of love by Joyce, with floral and garden art gifts from her children, rototilling and structure from her husband.
