of Cherries”
Angela Sayler, a 2003 graduate of ERHS, and the
recently crowned National Cherry Queen 2009-2010, will inform and entertain us with her passion for cherries,
their health benefits, and what it’s been like growing up in a cherry farming family. She is beginning this year to
promote the cherry industry as part of her responsibilities for the Cherry Queen program.

“Organic
Gardening”
After gardening organically for 25 years, Carolyn Royal will outline some of the key elements involved in this method
of gardening. She will give members some suggestions for preparing the garden with natural soil amendments, which plants
to use for companion planting, mixed cropping, and natural methods for pest management.

“Native Plants”
Working for the Grand Traverse Conservation District, Rebecca Teahen will inform us of the responsibilities of the GTCD.
She will also explain why it is important to plant native species, and provide descriptions of some of the native plants that
are sold in their annual native plant sale.

“Spring Wildflowers”
Trailing
arbutus, Bishop’s cap, Squirrel corn, Dutchman’s Breeches, Stinking Benjamin: the spring wildflowers of northern
Michigan are a joy to behold and nothing announces spring like a woodland bursting with color! Completing their life cycles
in a month or two, many of them disappear as summer heat builds. In an illustrated talk, Richard Fidler
will explore the spring flora of the Elk Rapids area with members.

Rapids Beautification Commission”
As one of seven members of the Beautification
Commission, Margaret LaBlond takes her job description seriously in helping to maintain the beauty
of our village. She will inform club members of the role that the Commission plays in Elk Rapids. We will also
have a chance to ask questions relating to future outdorr landscaping for our lovely
village.

Myrta Keelan. This year’s theme is “Michigan Festivals - Floral Design. At this luncheon we will also have
the opportunity to recognize and honor our Club and Community members for their extraordinary contributions for the ERGC and
Village activities.

the mystery to having hydrangeas performing well. This sought after, but misunderstood plant, has many varieties and
