Beautification Commission Collaborates with Elk Rapids Garden Club

The Elk Rapids Garden Club works with the direction of the Beautification Commission because the garden lands are owned by the Village.  The Beautification Commission funds necessary supplies and plants for the gardens of Elk Rapids.

The Elk Rapids Garden Club is an integral part in maintaining the beauty of the Village of Elk Rapids, but needs the Beautification Commission's approval if major changes are to be made to the gardens.

The Village of Elk Rapids has created the Beautification Commission and assigned specific duties.

The Beautification Commission consists of eight members, with a minimum of four that are residents.  No member of the Beautification Commission shall receive a salary for their services. The commission meets no less than six times per year.

Duties of the Beautification Commission include:

  • Recommends to the Village council for a budget providing for a beautification program throughout the Village.
  • Recommends to the council, the policies for the operation of the beautification program throughout the Village.
  • Recommends to the Village a long-term beautification vision throughout the Village.
  • Promotes activities that will benefit and promote beautification programs of the Village, including encouragement of participation of club, societies etc.

The proposed budget worksheet for 2010 includes:

$1880 for Garden Supplies

$6400 for Contractual Maintenance

$4700 for Trees and Shrubs

$300 for Brochures
